- A green banner means the spring physically fits at every point between closed and fully open — safe to drill.
- A red banner means it will not: either it cannot reach full open, or it bottoms out before the panel closes.
- Drag the orange points to move the brackets. Placement changes the force requirement more than anything else on this page.
- The blue arrow shows what you will feel at the panel edge. Pointing down means the panel sags; pointing up means it flies open.
- Force figures assume the centre of gravity you entered. For a panel of even thickness that sits at about half its length; a panel with a heavy edge sits further out.
- The highest force demand occurs at 20° rather than fully closed, because the spring's leverage changes as the panel rotates. The result is sized for that worst case.
- As a sanity check, a gas spring is usually 55–70% of the panel length when extended.
